A Google logo on the moon.

Google and Nasa

Given a bit more time and that just might become a reality. At the very least they can super-impose the big G logo as you take a virtual tour of the moon. In a further attempt to bring services to the end-user desktop, Google setup an arrangement with NASA providing for additional imagery and information related to weather forecasting, three-dimensional maps of the moon and Mars, and real-time tracking of the space shuttle and International Space Station.

“This agreement between NASA and Google will soon allow every American to experience a virtual flight over the surface of the moon or through the canyons of Mars,” NASA Administrator Michael Griffin said in a statement.

I seriously think if they could, Google would have their logo on the side of the shuttle, the ISS or both. Just imagine as your scanning the heavens with that brand new telescope your getting for Christmas, you see the ISS come into view and plastered on the side… GOOGLE. It’s not that far fetched, have you seen the satellite images of their corporate campus, that logo is in the bottom of the pool. You gotta love Google.

This endeavor might take a little while though. There are going to be some large technical issues they’ll have to workout to make this really worthwhile. But hey, I remember when Google Maps and Google Earth were just cheesy web apps that were cool to look at. That was what, a year ago, maybe two? Yeah. Give a couple more I fully expect to see the logo in space.

“Partnering with NASA made perfect sense for Google, as it has a wealth of technical expertise and data that will be of great use to Google as we look to tackle many computing issues on behalf of our users,” Google Chief Executive Eric Schmidt said in a statement.
