Beware! Blogging At Work Can Get You Fired
Seems almost like an understatement doesn’t it? Something that makes perfect sense and something you would think anyone would just automatically know. Apparently it also makes for a great way to avoid working while at work. But that can lead to serious trouble if the boss finds out, as one Iowa woman recently discovered; having kept a journal while on the job. Not only was she using company time and resources, the journal consisted of 300 pages outlining her efforts to avoid working.
“This typing thing seems to be doing the trick,” she wrote. “It just looks like I am hard at work on something very important.”
She also wrote: “I am only here for the money and, lately, for the printer access. I haven’t really accomplished anything in a long while … and I am still getting paid more than I ever have at a job before, with less to do than I have ever had before. It’s actually quite nice when I think of it that way. I can shop online, play games and read message boards and still get paid for it.”
Not surprisingly a judge has denied the womans request for unemployment citing the journal demonstrated a refusal to work. It should be noted that apparently a supervisor did tell her to stop at one point. I guess the moral here is, don’t press your luck. When the man says stop, stop.
