Hollywood Says Halo 3 Responsible For Poor Ticket Sales

It's not that most movies nowadays suck and 9 times out of 10 you'll feel more like you got raped by the box office after spending a small fortune to see that crappy movie. It's no secret people would rather wait for a new release to hit DVD so they can watch it at their leisure in the comfort of their own homes. Gone is the stigma the silver screen used to bring.
Hollywood has another opinion. Some industry execs believe it was Microsoft's recent release of Halo 3 that has hurt ticket sales, citing weak performances such as ticket sales for the week of October 5th (week after Halo released) being down as much as 27% and the fact gamers logged some 40 million hours playing Halo 3. Maybe it had something to do with it, but I doubt seriously it had that big of an impact. Most of those gamers probably have better home theaters than any cinema could dream of and while they're playing Halo 3, it'll just help them pass the time until whatever movie they missed makes it's way to DVD in about 2 months.
Do you still go to the movies or do you prefer to wait and watch things at home?

Go ahead and believe that, Hollywood. To me, the movie going experience is really not fun anymore: I’m sick and tired of sitting through 15 minutes of advertisements and having to put up pre-teens & teens using the theater as their personal chat room. And not to mention the parents who refuse to find a sitter so they bring their bawling infant or toddler to a R-rated movie. At least at home I can pop the popcorn and get ready for the movie while their asinine “Don’t steal this movie!!!” commercial plays on the DVD I bought.

I love the movie theater experience, always have, and I don’t really see why people would rather watch a crappy pirated movie on there computer……..Unless they know its going to be a crappy movie, b/c just through previews alone you can sorta tell what is going to be crappy. And yes Hollywood does put out a lot of crap that I would rather 1. watch a pirated version of and 2. would rather wait till the DVD comes out.
But unless I feel that the movie will have a good plot, story and will be original than I usually end up going to the theater, even more than once. (i.e. Casino Royale, Departed, 300, went to theater to watch these flicks 3 times, compared to Halloween (Rob Zombie version), Disturbia, that my gf dragged me into, 2 hours of my life wasted……would have much rathered punch my self in the face than waited in the emergency room for 2 hours).

Yea, they can take all their commercialism and high ticket prices and stick them up their you know whats. It’s all about the bottom line. With DVDs and now the ability to download movies from the Internet, I suspect they will have to start putting the consumer before the all mighty dollar.
