ICON A5 Personal Aircraft

Remember the cartoon show The Jetsons, and how George Jetson's spaceship always folded up into a briefcase? Well the ICON A5 Aircraft doesn't fold up into a briefcase but it does fold up, or at least that's the idea behind the concept.

The A5 will be pitched as a luxury product at a time when consumers are sharply cutting back. Steadily rising fuel prices aren't likely to help, either. The A5's engine, which burns either jet fuel or regular gasoline, earns about 18 miles to the gallon and has a range of about 300 miles.

  1. This thing looks cool, but did you hear the Founder & CEO at the end of the video. “The next big phase is putting a flying prototype together and get this thing flying in the air”. That means right now it’s nothing but an expensive model airplane. Also, no mention of price. Once they put a price tag of $400-700k on it, will it still be cool? I don’t think so, there are other planes that do the same thing.

Build it so that it runs on solar power, costs $50k, and takes off vertically. Then I’ll be impressed.
