First FireFox 3 Exploit Emerges

Were you one of the record setting 8.4 million people that downloaded FireFox 3 yesterday? I wasn’t, sorry, I resistant to change and I like my FireFox just fine. Besides, it took less than 24 hours for the first Firefox 3 exploit to emerge. A zero day attack that could allow the attacker to trick the user into executing unwanted code. Yeah, that’d be a bad thing. Still, as with everything new there’s going to be a little bit of pain, so I’m waiting. For the rest of you, details of the exploit haven’t been released and no word on any planned update to patch this exploit but I’m sure one will be forthcoming.

Boost Your Alexa Rank With The Alexa Firefox Toolbar
The Amazon.com owned web traffic monitor Alexa recently released an updated Alexa plugin for FireFox. After you install the Alexa toolbar you’ll be able to view traffic stats & trends, reach and rank for any site you visit. Alexa works by gathering stats from browsers that visit different sites, the catch is you must have the Alexa toolbar installed and until now it’s only been available for IE users.
Some question the value of an Alexa ranking, much like they question the value of a Technorati ranking but there is some value to this. Services like ReviewMe! & Text Link Ads use the Alexa rank as part of their algorithms to determine costs of services. Others, like DailyBlogTips use it to calculate blog popularity. Given that Firefox is in heavy use these days the release of the new plugin could cause a sudden surge in Alexa rankings for any number of sites.

If you haven’t already download the Alexa Firefox Toolbar now. There’s been a lot of chatter about it since the release, having just installed it I can say it’s pretty unobtrusive. I don’t even notice it in the taskbar of the browser, if it helps bring traffic in, even a little then what can it hurt? Try it out and tells us what you think.
New FireFox Logo
Call me shallow but I found this on Stumble and thought it was great, for obvious reasons. There’s a reason Firefox is the best browser out there and this sums it up quite nicely!

Feel free to berate me over it, just be gentle and Digg It first please…. Kudos to the original creator whoever you are.
Like Seriously! Microsoft Improves FireFox!

Introducing Microsoft FireFox 2007 Pro.
This is just about the funniest thing I’ve seen in some time, whoever was bored enough to dream this up gets an A+ in my book. I’m still snickering at some of the comments. Here’s the jist. The website reports that Microsoft acquires the Mozilla FireFox browser and entices the user with slogans like “Do more by doing less.”.
Open multiple copies of Microsoft websites in one window with tabbed browsing. See thumbnail images of all Microsoft sites in a single view. Organize multiple tabs of sites into a single tab group of everything Microsoft and save it as a favorite. Opening 30 of your favorite Microsoft sites has never been easier.
How to keep IE from crashing pages with embedded video
This has been an annoyance for some time. I rarely use IE anymore and when I do it’s usually because I’m too lazy to configure Trillian to launch links in something else, so when a friend sends me links to his video blog, I inevitably launch IE and it immediately crashes. I did all the things suggested around the web, upgraded the Divx codecs, Windows Media players, video drivers, etc. Nothing seemed to work. It never really crossed my mind that it might be Flash causing the problem but seeing as that’s apparently what both YouTube and Google Videos use to embed their players with , I decided to update Flash and see what happened. Sure enough, this fixed the problem. I can load a page full of embedded videos with IE and it’s doesn’t crash… yet, anyway. So if your experiencing this problem, give this a try, hopefully it will help you out.
