Halo 4 Being Developed By Gearbox, So Says The Rumormill

As these things go this ranks right up there with the constant rumors about iPhone evolution. According to Joystiq a rumor is going around that has Gearbox developing Halo 4 for launch with the next-gen XBOX 720 probably somewhere around 2012. Supposedly there is more in the October issue of OXM but some interesting evidence is being thrown around.
First, Gearbox headman Randy Pitchford is quoted as saying they have a new project that’s going to be big.
I’ve started a new project. It’s big. It’s, like, look-at-our-line-up-and-imagine-something-even-bigger kind of big. I’m Directing it myself. I can’t mention it publicly yet. When you find out what this is, you’ll likely agree that I can’t oversell this one.
Variety blogger Ben Fritz did a bit of snooping and had this to say:
I checked with a source I have who is close to Gearbox and the best info I can confirm is that Gearbox has definitely had conversations with Microsoft about doing a new “Halo” game and is very excited at the prospect. However, last my source heard, there was no deal in place. So as far as I can tell, it’s quite possible Gearbox will be doing “Halo 4,” (or whatever they end up calling it), but it’s not a certainty yet.
So it seems at least plausible that the new Gearbox project could indeed be a fourth iteration (or 5th if you count Halo Wars) to the extremely popular Halo series. The question in my mind is, why switch from Bungie? Perhaps they wanted too much money?
What do you guys think? Can another company maintain the standard set by Halo 3? Do you care as long a Master Chief lives?

Halo 3: One Shot Extermination
I dunno if the dude was lucky or just that good with the Spartan Laser but regardless this was one wickedly sweet shot. “OVER KILL!” Damn straight!
10 Best Halo 3 “Dead Corpse” Alphabet Letters

If you’ve played Halo 3, or any Halo for that matter, then you’re accustomed to the odd positions your dead corpse can end up in right after being blown halfway across the Snowbound map by some nine year old kid who’s adept at shooting grenades with a Battle Rifle. The Halo Corpse Alphabet is a project intended to represent every letter of the alphabet by the twisted, curved, stretched, and otherwise dead Spartan and Elite bodies from Halo 3. These are 10 of my favorite dead Spartan letters. What’s yours?

What If Nintendo Remade Halo 3?

That’s the question someone asked me over coffee the other morning. Being no short of real stuff to do I hit the almighty Google and low and behold found this little gem. A video mock up of what Halo 3 might be like if Nintendo were to remake it.
Yeah, you know you liked it.
Halo 3 Has Killed More Enemies Than Earth Population

I didn’t know this but Bungie keeps a running total of the Halo 3 kill count. Known as the “Enemies KIA” body count, the official total recently surpassed 6,752,229,647 kills, surpassing the estimated population of the Earth. Wow. I’m proud to say that 2,560 of those KIA’s were mine. What’s your total?

Halo Tries For Real Time Strategy In Halo Wars

It most likely won’t release this year and it’s sure create a furor when it does and I’m pretty sure I’ll fork over the $60 or whatever to buy it because I didn’t buy a $300 copy of Halo 3 (came with a free XBOX 360) to just play one game. However, trying to keep up with the rumor mill leaves one breathless. Word of cross-platform multiplayer support with PC users is a bit interesting and this whole notion of an RTS model vs the First Person shooter we’re used too is also a bit interesting but hey, it’s Halo. How bad could it be?

Hollywood Says Halo 3 Responsible For Poor Ticket Sales

It’s not that most movies nowadays suck and 9 times out of 10 you’ll feel more like you got raped by the box office after spending a small fortune to see that crappy movie. It’s no secret people would rather wait for a new release to hit DVD so they can watch it at their leisure in the comfort of their own homes. Gone is the stigma the silver screen used to bring.
Hollywood has another opinion. Some industry execs believe it was Microsoft’s recent release of Halo 3 that has hurt ticket sales, citing weak performances such as ticket sales for the week of October 5th (week after Halo released) being down as much as 27% and the fact gamers logged some 40 million hours playing Halo 3. Maybe it had something to do with it, but I doubt seriously it had that big of an impact. Most of those gamers probably have better home theaters than any cinema could dream of and while they’re playing Halo 3, it’ll just help them pass the time until whatever movie they missed makes it’s way to DVD in about 2 months.
Do you still go to the movies or do you prefer to wait and watch things at home?
