Drinking Beer Could Help Fight Cancer

beerglass.jpg

We’ve all heard the “red wine is good for you” argument before, but let’s face it; not everyone would choose a glass of red wine over a nice, cold beer. I wouldn’t, at least. Anyway, the actual benefit of drinking red wine comes from a cancer-fighting chemical called resveratrol, which occurs naturally in grapes. The problem with the red wine argument is that you’d have to consume about a half a bottle each day to get the beneficial effects of the chemical. If only someone could figure out how to add a more potent blend to delicious, nutritious beer…

Boobs Make Men Happy

While this isn’t a completely scientific view, it’s nonetheless an absolutely spot on assessment of how us guys tend to view those most miraculous of wonders God created known as “breasts”. Yes, ladies, we are happy as long as we can look or at least get a glimpse of what god hath bestowed. Besides, we already know that looking at boobs everyday will make you live longer, so next time you see some dude trying to sneak a peak inside that blouse remember, you’re contributing to his overall health and happiness.

“Every woman knows of men’s almost obsessive surveillance of this particular part of the female topography. Tell me something I don’t know.”

Regardless of what you believe, men don’t just love big breasts. We love ‘em all: Large, small, medium, extra-large, firm, floppy, perky and pendulous.

HDTV Gas Is Hazardous To Your Health

nf3a.jpg

I thought this was interesting, especially considering how “green” the world wants to be nowadays. You know that flat-panel LCD you’ve got sitting in the living room? Well, apparently every time you sit down in front of it your slowly killing yourself. LCD’s use a gas called Nitrogen Triflouride and when this gas is inhaled is extremely harmful to the liver and kidneys. When released into the environment is about 17,200 times more harmful than carbon dioxide.

And you didn’t believe your mum when she told you sitting in front of the TV you would slowly waste away.

A Pill to Cure Alcoholism?

Researchers at the University of Virginia Health System reported that a drug called topiramate can lead to a reduction in heavy drinking. It’s not on the market yet, but doctors can supposedly prescribe it “of label”.

The drug proved to be better than a placebo at reducing the craving for alcohol and did a better job of lowering liver enzymes, cholesterol, body mass index, and blood pressure-which reduces the risk of serious health conditions.A reduction in both cholesterol levels and blood pressure, for example, decreases the risk of developing heart disease. Topiramate may also lower the risk for the onset of cirrhosis, the scarring of the liver that is a leading cause of death in heavy drinkers.

Well, it’s no wonder Budweiser was entertaining offers from the Germans.

Obsessive Internet Use Is A Public Health Problem

If you’re reading this then you’re more than likely addicted to the internet according to a recent study conducted by British psychiatrists. A study which makes the bold statement “Obsessive internet use is a public health problem which is so serious it should be officially recognized as a clinical disorder”.

Sufferers spend unhealthy amounts of time playing online games, viewing pornography or emailing.

They suffer four symptoms: They forget to eat and sleep; they need more advanced technology or more hours online as they develop ‘resistance’ to the pleasure given by their current system; if they are deprived of their computer, they experience genuine withdrawal symptoms; And in common with other addictions, the victims also begin to have more arguments, to suffer fatigue, to get lower marks in tests and to feel isolated from society.

Let’s see, yup, I think I got most of those bases covered, except they forgot one, DENIAL because even though that describes my typical day to a T I’m going to deny that I have any such problem, unless of course it qualifies me for some drug that will increase the hours in the day, so I can spend more time playing online.

The study also noted that it’s becoming more of a problem for middle aged women, than socially awkward men. They say it’s because these women spend hours at home on their computers. I say it’s simply because they finally figured out what us men do when they’re not around!

Want To Get Smarter? Drink A Beer Everyday!

A new study that’s being published in The Journal of Nueroscience indicates that low to moderate consumption of alcohol may actually improve your memory. so far the study has only observed the reaction in rats but I’m sure there will be no loss for people to participate in human testing.

“There are human epidemiological data of others indicating that mild [to] moderate drinking may paradoxically improve cognition in people compared to abstention,” says Maggie Kalev, a research fellow in molecular medicine and pathology at the University of Auckland in New Zealand and a co-author of an article in The Journal of Neuroscience describing results of a study she and other researchers performed on rats. “This is similar to a glass of wine protecting against heart disease, however the mechanism is different.”

Ok, so we already knew that a glass of wine could help stave off heart disease, so now if you have a beer everyday you’ll get smarter and if you want to go for the trifecta of health and live longer, well, stay out of the gym.

Thirsty? Have A Beer Instead

Not to long ago we told you about a story that claimed if wanted to get smarter you should drink a beer everyday. Now comes more proof that the world’s oldest and most popular alcoholic beverage is good for you (in moderation of course). A study at Spain’s University of Granada had a bunch of students perform strenuous exercise in temperatures around 104 degrees then split the group into two halves. One half was given a half-pint of beer while the other half was given the same amount of plain old water. The professor who conducted the study said the results indicated that hydration was “slighty better” in those who drank a beer after exercise than those who drank just water. So as if you needed another excuse, there you go.

Researchers To Develop “Bionic” Nerves

Move over Jamie Sommers, Bionics are about to become a reality. Researches at the University of Manchester have successfully transformed fat tissue stem cells into nerve cells. The significance of this feat being that damaged limbs and organs can potentially be brought back to life or regenerated.

In a study published in October’s Experimental Neurology, Dr Paul Kingham and his team at the UK Centre for Tissue Regeneration (UKCTR) isolated the stem cells from the fat tissue of adult animals and differentiated them into nerve cells to be used for repair and regeneration of injured nerves. They are now about to start a trial extracting stem cells from fat tissue of volunteer adult patients, in order to compare in the laboratory human and animal stem cells.

Following that, they will develop an artificial nerve constructed from a biodegradable polymer to transplant the differentiated stem cells. The biomaterial will be rolled up into a tube-like structure and inserted between the two ends of the cut nerve so that the regrowing nerve fibre can go through it from one end to the other.

This ‘bionic’ nerve could also be used in people who have suffered trauma injuries to their limbs or organs, cancer patients whose tumour surgery has affected a nearby nerve trunk and people who have had organ transplants.

And you just thought it was all Science Fiction!

According to some research somewhere, people that obsessively drink caffeine are 30% more likely to develop depression and anxiety and 20% more susceptible to panic disorders as compared to those that don’t drink caffeine regularly. This explains why everybody around me looks like zombies all the time. Apparently, if your a super caffeine junkie, drinking something like 5 8oz cups of coffee, 8 cans of Red Bulls or 20 cans of soda) the risk is even greater. I guess it means that in a few years the world will be without programmers too because between the Mountain Dew and Red Bull they’re all surely going to die.

Seriously though, I know someone that goes through at least 6 sometimes maybe 8 cans of Red Bull everyday.

Want To Live Longer? Look At Boobs Everyday!

eyefulladay.jpg

Staring at women’s breast is good for men’s health and makes them live longer, a new study reveals.

Researchers have discovered that a 10-minute ogle at women’s breasts is as healthy as half-an-hour in the gym.

A five-year study of 200 men found that those who enjoyed a longing look at busty beauties had lower blood pressure, less heart disease and slower pulse rates compared to those who did not get their daily eyeful.

Dr Kren Weatherby, who carried out the German study, wrote in the New England Journal of Medicin: “Just 10 minutes of staring at the charms of a well endowed female is roughly equivalent to a 30-minute arobics workout.”

“Sexual excitement gets the heart pumping and improves blood circulation.”

“There is no question that gazing at breasts makes men healthier.”

“Out Study indiciates that engaging in this activity a few minutes daily cuts the risk of a stroke and heart attack in half.”

“We believe that by doing so consistently, the average man can extend his life four to five years.”

Well, there you go. Documented medical advice that you don’t need to spend hours in the gym to stay healthy. Finally, I can exercise while surfing the net for photos.

Update: So it seems this is an Urban Legend since no actual study can be found in the archive of the New England Journal of Medicine. I really think the Myth Buster guys should take this one on and find out for sure. What do ya’ll think? (Thanks to the folks that sent this in).
