PS3 Losing Ground To Wii And XBOX 360

Microsoft Nintendo hardware sales benefited once more from successful game titles in September. The best selling title for the month was Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (610,000 units), which helped lift Xbox 360 sales by more than 75% from 195,200 in August to 347,200 units in September, according to NPD. The Wii climbed from a weak 453,000 units in August to 687,000 units on strong sales of its Wii Fit game and accessory, which sold 518,000 times during the month.
New XBOX Live Dashboard Releases Nov 19th

Microsoft announced at the Tokoyo Game Show that November 19th is when they plan to hoak up all our XBOX’s release The XBOX Experience, the much talked about update for the XBOX Live Dashboard. I’m not real sure yet what I think about it, but so far it looks too graphic intensive to me. I rarely spend much time in the dashboard now, preferring to do my business and get on with gaming so I’m not real sure why this is necessary. Oh well, hopefully things will go smoothly…. yeah right. What do you think of the new dashboard? Like it or not?
XBOX 360 Ads: “Live Your Moment”
Xbox 360 / Rock Band 2 Advertising
Microsoft is spending big this holiday season, trying to lure in the “casual and social” segment gamer who does not yet own an Xbox 360. They’re also going after the “I like to be creeped the fuck out by hollow-headed women with death mask smiles” crowd with the first spot in the “Live Your Moment” ad campaign.
Windows 7 Looks Like Vista

The latest Windows 7 M3 Build, we see that Windows 7 looks a whole lot like Vista. There are updates for sure, but they’re subtle differences—a return to the Ribbon interface, a simplified start menu, My Documents replaced with Libraries, fewer User Account Control alerts and a “light” Windows Media Player to name a couple. From a superficial standpoint alone, not a lot has changed (though admittedly, that Vista background isn’t helping much).
Bill Gates & Jerry Sienfeld Microsoft Commercial #2 (Still SUCKS!)
So Microsoft has released their second commercial featuring Bill Gates and Jerry Sienfeld. I gotta say, it sucks just as bad as the last one. What happened to the “Get A Mac” killer ads I kept hearing about? What about these commercials makes me want anything to do with Microsoft. For that matter, wtf do these commercials tell me? That Bill and Microsoft are up to something, ok, I get that part but who in their right mind think Windows 7 is going to be something good? I mean come on, seriously, they’ve had how many years to figure it out and this is the best $300 million can buy to combat the Apple ads. You know, if Microsoft really wanted to get me back as a customer they’d take that $300 million and refund the few thousand I got invested in their piece of crap operating systems to date.
Gates & Sienfeld Windows Commercial You Won’t See On TV

I think this about sums up the entire Bill Gates & Jerry Sienfeld Windows commercial campaign.

Bill Gates & Jerry Sienfeld Microsoft Commercial SUCKS!
Ok, so I finally got around to watching the first installment from Microsoft’s $300 million advertising campaign. All I can say is this. It sucked and made no sense whatsoever. At least with the “Get A Mac” ads I understand that PC is supposed to suck and Apple is God but what the frak am I supposed to get from this? Stupid, lame and typical Microsoft I guess.
Confirmed! Ensemble Closing, New Studio Being Formed

Well that was fast. Shacknews got the confirmation that Ensemble is indeed being flushed by Microsoft but not immediately, sometime after the completion of Halo Wars. Microsoft released a full statement saying it was a planned closure and “fiscally-rooted” decision, with an number of employees moving to a new studio in support of Halo Wars and future endeavors.
Microsoft has decided to close Ensemble Studios following the completion of Halo Wars. After the closure, the Ensemble leadership team will form a new studio and has agreed to provide ongoing support for Halo Wars as well as work on other projects with Microsoft Game Studios.
Halo Wars Developer Ensemble Studios Is Shutting It’s Doors

According to multiple reports received by Shacknews, the Mircosoft owned company that’s best known for the Age of Empires titles apparently laid off all “non-essential” personnel today saying the company would close it’s doors permanently once they completed the Halo real-time strategy game Halo Wars in early 2009. I wonder how much this has to do with the newly formed “Halo Franchise Team” that looks poised to move all Halo related development in house? Just a thought.
Halo 4 Is A Reality… (maybe)

So there’s a ton of talk going around in the last day or so about the possibility that Gearbox will be developing Halo 4. More evidence of that has emerged regarding one Gearbox developer Corrinne Yu leaving for Microsoft. Reports have varied as to her title but Shacknews got the scoop.
A Gearbox representative has confirmed with Shacknews that staff member Corrinne Yu has indeed taken a position at Microsoft, and clarified that has she served as Gearbox’s director of platform technology, not technology director, for the past six months.

Word of Yu’s departure surfaced yesterday when this supposed internal Gearbox memo got circulated (certain information removed for privacy reasons).
Hello, friends.
I am Corrinne Yu, Director of Technology of Gearbox Software.
I was offered and recruited to the position of Principle (Lead) Engine Architect of Halo Franchise Team at Microsoft. I accepted the offer to lead the team to build the engines and games for future Halo’s on Xbox’es and PC’s at Microsoft.
I am staying to simu-ship Brothers In Arms all versions. I will start Halo after BiA starts manufacturing. Aliens: Colonial Marines and Borderlands are more than mostly completed. I assure you I will continue to help Gearbox. I am starting on Halo Team at Microsoft after 09/15/2008. My email after that day will be XXXX@microsoft.com.
I would be glad to introduce my friendly helpful Corrinne replacements at Gearbox to you. I am stoked to program and design and build some awesome Halo’s.
Let’s stay in touch!
after 09/15/2008

So while nothing absolutely confirms that Gearbox and or Microsoft internally will be developing a 4th Halo, the fact Yu will be the lead developer of a Microsoft Halo Team lends strong credence to the rumor and her ties with Gearbox further suggest their involvement.
Anyway, word is a working game probably won’t be available until around 2012, possibly to coincide with the release of the next gen Xbox but you can expect to hear lots of Halo talk in the future.
