Cinematical Launches ‘Star Trek’ Gallery

nerotrek
Paramount went nutty with Star Trek images over the past couple of days. Not only did they release something in the neighborhood of 10 photos, but they did so across several different websites — which, in case you were wondering (or in a sympathetic mood), made our job of tracking them all down for you oh so much fun. But now, my friends, comes the real fun part — because we finally have all those brand spanking new Star Trek images in one place.

MacHeads: The Movie

The film MacHeads looks to be an in-depth examination of just what makes the Mac, the iPod, the iPhone, and Apple’s other products seem like cultural phenomena rather than just consumer electronics.

“The Hobbit” Will Be One Movie Filmed In Two Parts

Middle Earth fanatics have long debated what the heck this whole “second Hobbit movie” would entail. Arguably, there’s enough material for a prequel, with Gandalf leading battles into Mirkwood to fight Sauron, who was slowly rebuilding his dark kingdom. But recent news has suggested it is more of a Hobbit sequel, where Tolkien’s material is scarcer.

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen to be shot in IMAX

Holy cow Batman, this is hot. Thanks to the success of Dark Knight, Michael Bay is going to be shooting parts of the next Transformers movie in the super clear IMAX format. That’s right folks, Optimus Prime will stand five stories tall and crush everything in his path. This is hot, and it’ll work, in fact it’ll flat kick ass!

LOS ANGELES, CA, September 30, 2008 – IMAX Corporation (NASDAQ: IMAX; TSX: IMX), DreamWorks Pictures and Paramount Pictures today announced that director Michael Bay will shoot key sequences of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with IMAX® cameras. Bay will integrate the IMAX footage with state of the art CGI to create an unprecedented look and feel for the highly anticipated sequel to last year’s box office hit, Transformers. As previously announced, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen will be released to IMAX® theatres simultaneously with the movie’s wide release on June 26, 2009.

The movie sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into the unparalleled image and sound quality of The IMAX Experience® with IMAX DMR® (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The IMAX DMR scenes will appear in the traditional “letterbox” shape, while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen.

“The extraordinary level of detail and intensity captured by the IMAX camera creates many exciting possibilities for us with this film,” said Michael Bay, the film’s director. “IMAX’s all-encompassing format will take this story to a new level, and I am once again very excited to share The IMAX Experience with Transformers fans around the world.”

“The addition of another amazing title from DreamWorks and Paramount, combined with more groundbreaking use of IMAX technology by Hollywood’s top filmmakers, are examples of how far we have come as a company and a distribution platform over the past several years,” said IMAX Co-Chairmen and Co-CEOs Richard L. Gelfond and Bradley J. Wechsler. “The growth of the IMAX theatre network, fueled by the economical benefits of the new IMAX digital system, is driving interest from virtually all of the top studios, which is resulting in more IMAX movies for audiences to enjoy.”

“Michael Bay’s innovative use of IMAX cameras will create a spectacular cinematic adventure for moviegoers next summer,” added Greg Foster, Chairman and President of IMAX Filmed Entertainment. “We’re very excited to be integrated as a core part of the Transformers production, and with the skilled marketing and distribution teams at DreamWorks and Paramount, the timing is ideal given our expanding global audience and network footprint.”

Star Trek Movie

I’m a geek, won’t deny it. No matter how bad they were I’ve anxiously anticipate the arrival of each and every Star Trek movie. I was a little disappointed to hear the latest installment wouldn’t be a Next Generation film, I really enjoyed Nemesis but from everything I’m reading, the new movie, simply title “Star Trek” looks like it could be a kick ass flick and possible reboot this franchise putting it back on track for future movies.

The writer’s team had “endless discussions” about how to portray the gadgets, as well as all the other details of “style” and “esthetics,” Abrams said. “If you do the bridge of the Enterprise, what does it look like? Does Uhura has the piece in her, or does she not? And if she does, what does it look like? If they have tricorders, what do they look like? Phasers, how do you go from stun to kill, and does anything happen? What does the whole fleet look like? I’m telling you, every day, we were figuring this out, how do we take what we know and love and ‘Star Trek’ and apply it to a modern audience.”

Some of these details will be a little more hidden, Burk said, as easter eggs. “There will be appearances of things,” he said.

“We have family members who would disown us if we got any of those wrong,” said writer/producer Roberto Orci.

At the same time it’s meant for hardcore fans, “it’s designed very much to be seen if you don’t know anything about it,” Orci said, “including the story of how they all met. It’s finally, truly Star Trek Zero in a way. You don’t have to know anything.”

Personally I can’t wait, view the HD trailer at the official Star Trek movie website.

Batman: The Dark Knight, First Movie Review

I’m so freaking jealous I just don’t know what to do with myself because I gotta wait (along with the rest of you) until the middle of July to go see the new Batman movie, The Dark Knight. Ever since that first glimpse trailer came out months ago, I’ve been waiting. Now here’s some SOB that’s managed to get an advanced viewing. It’s pretty spoiler free so it shouldn’t ruin too much for you, couple of juicy tidbits in there though to watch out for, but over all it just makes me wanna see this movie that much more.

Heath Ledgers performance of the joker is truly one for the books. A man of no remorse or morals who simply wants to see things burn. There is no back story or establishing the character. He is fully formed. He does have some dialogue scenes that reveal a bit of his background. Lets just say he has some issues with his father and that smile of his is rooted in a gesture of love. He is far from a caricature and has depth . He realises that without Batman he would not be. The Joker is almost more of a terrorist than criminal. He is not motivated by money. He wants to see people suffer. Its a damn shame that this was Heath Ledger’s final major performance as it shows a whole different side to him as a performer

Could Halo Be Made Into Live Action Motion Picture?

This has actually been posted before but it’s worth posting again. It’s basically “an edited version of the Halo Combat short films that was combined into one cohesive story” in an attempt to portray the potential for a live action movie. Given the other games that have been made into motion pictures I think if done right Halo has the potential do pretty good. The question is, who plays Master Chief?

Wickedly Cool LEGO Aliens Scenes

People have been building some wickedly cool stuff with LEGO’s lately. Mike Yoder is a apparently a big Aliens fan and he’s created a bunch of dioramas depicting scenes from the movie. I’ve included a few photos, notice how Mike worked the lighting to give the photos that realistic feel to them. Sort of like the LEGO men are stuck on a deep space transport ship being stalked by blood thirsty aliens. Yeah, they look exactly like that. Be sure to check out the whole gallery at Brickshelf.
