Star Wars: The Force Unleashed

star-wars-the-force-unleashed1.jpg

I’m not a big gamer. I mostly like PC based racing games like NASCAR Racing or some of the newer Grand Prix style mods. I also enjoy a good shoot’em up like Rainbow Six, Ghost Recon or Splinter Cell so rarely do I get excited over a console game, let alone a Star Wars game. However, after watching this short video I think this latest one might be worth investing some time in. Making use of new technologies found only in the newer gaming consoles, Star Wars: The force Unleased looks like it promises to deliver a real “out of this world” experience. Check out the video for your self, what do you think?

The game makes use of a variety of new technologies but is built on the twin pillars of a Digital Molecular Matter system and Natural Motion’s Euphoria. The former is a technology that ensures that materials in the game work according to real world physics. Shatter a piece of glass or wood and it splinters apart realistically. Last year we saw a variety of materials, from rubber to jelly to wood to ice and each one responded to physical attacks in ways that were amazingly realistic.

Formula One Championship Edition (IGN Review)

As if I needed another reason to go out an buy a PS3, this one is getting pretty darn close to causing serious motivation. I used to be big into NASCAR Sim Racing but time got in the way. Still, my first love was open wheel and Sony’s latest edition might be just the thing for those late night when you can’t sleep. Chris Roper reviews the game for IGN and give it a modest review but specifically points out the game is tuned towards the technical aspect of Forumla One racing, and that’s just fine by me. I could spend hours fine tuning lap times at the expense of frilly stuff you find in other racing sims. Just me, the machine and the course, that’s all I need. Video after the jump.

Having said all that, this is obviously not a game for everyone. There aren’t a ton of amazing crashes, and there isn’t a whole lot of subtlety in the cars’ performance (excluding the ability to tweak and fine-tune them). So what we’re left with is an extremely technical game, one that doesn’t have a lot of flash to it. If you’re not a fan of perfecting lap times by memorizing a course and prefer the feel of a muscle car, this isn’t the game for you. However, if you’re a Formula fan and love this sort of thing, it won’t disappoint.

“The PS3 is a disaster”

At least according to Valve Software founder Gabe Newell. Valve is an entertainment and software technology company in Bellevue, Washington and is a big player in the PC online action gaming marketing. In a recent Game Informer interview, co-founder and managing director Gabe Newell said the “PS3 is a total disaster on so many levels.” It appears Mr. Newell is a big Wii fan and it would be interesting to get feedback from anyone that’s read the full article. What do you think of Mr. Newell summation of the PS3 saga?

I think It’s really clear that Sony lost track of what customers and what developers wanted. I’d say, even at this late date, they should just cancel it and do a “do over”. Just say, “This was a horrible disaster and we’re sorry and we’re going to stop selling this and stop trying to convince people to develop for it”. The happy story is the Wii. I’m betting that by Christmas of next year, the Wii has a larger installed base than the 360. Other people think I’m crazy. I really like everthing that Nintendo is doing.
