I got an email for an interesting service the other day. Truphone claims to save you money on mobile calls by routing calls via the internet. They claim not to believe in roaming charges and that prices are cheap from anywhere on the planet.

You keep your mobile number and your sim card. There are no calling cards, no access numbers and no funny business. Dial as normal from your address book. We just use the power of the internet to save you money whenever possible.

Truphone is a free software download to your compatible phone that can route calls cheaply over the internet via Wi-Fi, 3G or even via ordinary GSM. It’s listed as one of the 10 iPhone apps to check out by All Things Digital and has several thousand downloads on iTunes.

Sounds amazing doesn’t it? Anybody actually tried this app, can’t argue with saving money.
